About Dr. Blessy S. Bhalla
Dr. Blessy Sehgal Bhalla has nearly nine years of experience in nephrology. She completed her MBBS from Christian Medical College and Hospital in 2004 and her MD in Internal Medicine in 2009. Following this, she undertook a senior residency in medicine and joined Christian Medical College as a teaching faculty member in Internal Medicine, where she taught fellows from 2009 to 2012. In 2012, Dr. Bhalla joined the Department of Nephrology as a fellow and completed her doctorate in nephrology in 2016. Since then, she has been working as a consultant nephrologist at Sri Balaji Action Medical Institute (SBAMI) in Delhi, India.
In 2018, Dr. Bhalla furthered her qualifications by completing the MRCP Nephrology Specialty Certificate Examination (SCE) in the UK. Throughout her nephrology career, she has managed patients with chronic kidney disease (CKD), acute kidney injury (AKI), and glomerular disease. She has a particular interest in critical care nephrology and has conducted research on AKI in hematopoietic stem cell transplants, cardiorenal syndrome, and AKI in ICU settings.
At SBAMI, Dr. Bhalla oversees a large nephrology department that performs approximately 3,000 hemodialysis sessions per month, making it the largest dialysis facility in North Delhi. The institute admits around 150 inpatients and handles an OPD of 600 patients each month. The facility is equipped to perform continuous renal replacement therapy (CRRT) and sustained low-efficiency dialysis (SLED). They have a dedicated 10-bed nephrology ICU for critical nephrology patients and perform both live and cadaveric kidney transplants, along with about 4 to 5 renal biopsies per month.
The center has been recognized by the National Board of Examinations since 2018 and currently trains four fellows under Dr. Bhalla, with ongoing research projects. She has authored numerous research papers and delivered multiple presentations at national conferences. Dr. Bhalla continues to contribute significantly to the field of nephrology through her clinical work, research, and teaching.
